A writer’s brush with stalking…July 9th, 2009
Ok, y’all, I’m so not a stalker. Or an obsessed fan. However, Tuesday night at the House of Blues I got a taste of what it was like to be one. I’m currently plotting my next thriller, the story of an American Idol-type show winner who becomes the focus of an obsessed fan. Research is essential to create an authentic fictional world–what better place to get needed information than from a real-life source? Enter David Cook and the House of Blues. I got tickets to the show and brought a book–BREAKNECK, both in hardcover and audio CD–with me and a letter explaining who I was, what I was doing and asking for his help. I’m not naive. The chances of my book getting into his hands, then having him read and respond to my interview request were slim. But it was a shot. (Yes, I’m pursuing official channels, as well.) And it was an experience. A humbling one. I’m a professional who’s accustomed to being taken seriously by the sources I approach. I’m not a groupie or God forbid, a cougar. But the folks I approached at HOB looked at me like I was. And I approached quite a number. Finally, I found someone who could help–a heck of a nice guy named Mike. He got BREAKNECK and my letter into David Cook’s hands. Where it went from there–the circular file, maybe–who knows? Then, as we left the HOB we ran into a roadie loading one of the tour buses. I handed him the CD version of BREAKNECK with another copy of the letter. He shrugged and said, “I have a whole bag of shit for him. I’ll toss this in with it.” It was an adventure. A “fan’s eye” view of life. I’ll sum it up this way: I know a writer who had herself sealed in a coffin to see what it would be like to be buried alive. This was a hell of a lot more fun. Best, Erica
Me with Mike– thanks for your help!
Blood Vines revisions are DONE!May 22nd, 2009
A Breezy EveningMay 14th, 2009Friends and Fans, Just popping in to say hello and wish one and all a beautiful week. My super-secret “Project X” is coming along nicely. The weather has remained beautiful so I’ve been able to continue writing from the porch. I found the perfect Sauvignon Blanc and American IDOL reveals the finalists tonight.
Does it get any better than this?

XO, Erica Just Breathe!March 31st, 2009I thought I’d take a break from Blood Vines to say hello and share that the novel is almost complete! Halfway through Day 2 of writing retreat and am 20 pages closer to The End. Am totally living through the trauma and drama with my characters–heart racing, the whole bit. I guess I know when I’m doing it right because I have to remind myself to breathe! XO, Erica Writer Back in Hiding…March 10th, 2009Hi Friends and Fans, The golden retriever and I are once again in writing seclusion. Hoping to rough in the last chapters this week! Then on to more polishing. And polishing. Will be taking time out for IDOL tonight. Right now I’m rooting for Danny. Any other fans out there? Release NewsMarch 2nd, 2009Hello All, Back at home, settling into my usual writing routine- fingers crossed it’s as productive as my retreat was- 37 pages completed! I hope my last entry wasn’t too much of a teaser. Even with the BLOOD VINES manuscript being turned in on April 1, it won’t hit the stands until early 2010. It takes the publisher 9 to 12 months to do their part–editing, cover art and copy, printing, binding, selling in to bookstores! It seems forever to me, too. However, if you haven’t had a chance to read SEE JANE DIE or IN SILENCE, they will each be reprinted this year, one in November and the other in December. The new covers look smashing–I’ll post them soon. Back to work! -Erica Writer in HidingFebruary 26th, 2009Hello all, Sequestered myself at our lakehouse, just me, my golden retriever and BLOOD VINES, my Book in Progress. I’m thrilled to say, I wrote 12 pages yesterday and 8 so far today! Due date is April 1–wish me luck! | ||
